El Salvador is accelerating its economic footprint in Asia through a high-level diplomatic and commercial mission to Daegu, one of South Korea’s leading industrial and technology hubs. During meetings with Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho and Metropolitan Council leadership, Salvadoran officials established strategic frameworks to expand bilateral trade, attract foreign direct investment, and promote Central America’s growing tech and innovation ecosystem.

The partnership targets key growth sectors, focusing on artificial intelligence, smart mobility, industrial development, and advanced technology integration. As a key milestone, El Salvador secured an official invitation to FIX 2026 (Future Innovation tech eXpo), taking place in Daegu this October. The premier event will bring together global tech leaders and investors, providing a high-profile platform for Salvadoran firms and institutions to form regional technological alliances.

Beyond high-tech industries, the agenda highlighted El Salvador’s position as an attractive investment destination and nearshoring platform for Asian companies targeting Central American markets. Highlighting premium exports, Salvadoran diplomats showcased the country’s world-renowned specialty coffee, aiming to deepen its presence among specialized importers, distributors, and consumers across South Korea.
To solidify cultural and academic ties, the delegation presented copies of Jícaras Tristes by legendary Salvadoran poet Alfredo Espino, in both Spanish and Korean translations, to the Daegu Mayor’s Office. By combining academic exchanges, high-tech collaboration, and commercial expansion, El Salvador continues to redefine its diplomatic reach and position itself as a key strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific region.
