President Bukele Promotes Education Overhaul as Key to El Salvador’s Long-Term Development.

President Nayib Bukele highlighted the transformation of El Salvador’s public education system as a central pillar for the country’s long-term development, outlining an ambitious reform agenda focused on infrastructure, technology, and innovation.

In a message posted on X, Bukele stated, “We inherited one of the worst education systems in the world. But we are transforming it from the ground up.” He detailed efforts that include rebuilding schools nationwide, providing computers and tablets to all students, supplying books, school materials, shoes, and uniforms, installing high-speed internet in every school, and developing individualized artificial intelligence tutors in partnership with xAI.

The president emphasized that while progress is ongoing, the reforms are designed to create equal opportunities for students regardless of their socioeconomic background. “There is still a long way to go, but with a little patience and hard work, we will build the best education system in the world,” Bukele said.

Education experts generally agree that comprehensive education reforms can have wide-ranging benefits, including a more skilled workforce, higher productivity, reduced inequality, and increased competitiveness in the global economy. Expanding access to technology and digital tools can also prepare students for modern job markets, attract foreign investment, and support innovation-driven growth.

For El Salvador, the overhaul of its education system is positioned not only as a social policy, but as a long-term economic strategy aimed at strengthening human capital and supporting sustainable national development.
