The Government of President Nayib Bukele has delivered another milestone in road infrastructure with the lighting of the Gerardo Barrios Ring Road, a 21-kilometer project that includes overpasses and bridges, now illuminated with the colors of the Salvadoran flag.

Minister of Public Works Romeo Herrera emphasized the importance of this investment, noting that for decades the eastern region had been neglected by previous administrations. “Now, in the eastern part of the country, huge and significant investments are being made, such as the Oriente Airport or the Gerardo Barrios Ring Road, which is the largest investment in road infrastructure in the region,” Herrera stated.
The project features 846 solar panels and lights, along with 564 translucent poles bearing the national flag, installed along the entire stretch of the road. The system operates automatically at 6:30 p.m. with photocell technology, improving nighttime visibility and ensuring greater safety for drivers, freight transport, tourism, and local families.
“Previous governments promised to build a bypass but never delivered. It wasn’t until President Bukele’s administration that the Gerardo Barrios Ring Road was built and now illuminated, benefiting thousands of Salvadorans who use this route every day,” Herrera added.
The lighting of the Gerardo Barrios Ring Road enhances connectivity and security for the eastern region, supporting commerce, tourism, and family mobility. With this achievement, El Salvador continues to advance in modern infrastructure projects that bring progress and opportunity to every corner of the country.
