A delegation of public officials from El Salvador is currently in the People’s Republic of China, participating in a specialized seminar on smart city development. This initiative is part of the Salvadoran government’s commitment to promoting urban innovation through the implementation of smart cities across the country.
Smart cities aim to harness technology to improve citizens’ quality of life, increasing the efficiency of services and resources in key sectors such as infrastructure, transportation, energy, and healthcare.

With the support and cooperation of China, the Salvadoran delegation is attending a training program organized by the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO) under China’s Ministry of Commerce.
“The future doesn’t wait. Smart cities are not a distant option, they are a present-day necessity. This seminar is an opportunity to transform knowledge into action and leadership into concrete solutions for our cities,” said Luis López, El Salvador’s ambassador to China, during the opening session.

Over the next two weeks, the 30 participants will deepen their understanding of topics such as urban governance, sustainable mobility, digital transformation, data use, artificial intelligence, and smart urban planning.
These new insights are expected to inspire concrete urban transformation projects aligned with El Salvador’s national vision for modern planning, public innovation, and enhanced quality of life.

“China’s experience in building smart cities will be a valuable source of inspiration to design solutions for today’s urban challenges in El Salvador,” added Ambassador López.
He also emphasized that this cooperation highlights the strong ties of friendship and collaboration between El Salvador and China, rooted in a shared goal of innovation and development for the benefit of their people.
