Following recent diplomatic tensions surrounding a narco-plane intercepted in Tecomán, Colima, El Salvador has acknowledged and welcomed the public clarification made by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum regarding the case.
President Nayib Bukele issued an official response via his verified account on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“We appreciate the clarification.
We hope the media outlets and journalists who reported this news will issue a corresponding correction.”
The statement refers to previous allegations suggesting the aircraft may have originated in El Salvador—claims now officially dismissed by Mexican authorities, who confirmed that the plane never entered Salvadoran airspace and that none of its crew members were Salvadoran nationals.
The Salvadoran government, having provided radar and regional airspace data in response to the original claims, had requested an official correction both from the Mexican government and from international media outlets that echoed the unverified information.
With this latest development, the administration of President Bukele emphasizes the importance of journalistic responsibility and accuracy, particularly in matters of international reputation and sovereignty.
The request now extends to all media outlets and reporters who covered the initial version of the story to issue appropriate corrections, in line with the updated facts and Mexico’s official acknowledgment of error.
