El Salvador’s agricultural sector is stepping into the future with AgroConecta, an initiative designed to bridge traditional field expertise with modern digital technology. Supported by the MERIAN project—funded by the European Union and implemented by FAO El Salvador alongside the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), CENTA, and ENA—this initiative introduces a hybrid technical assistance model to boost productivity, innovation, and sustainability across the nation.
By blending hands-on field visits, live demonstrations, and training with accessible digital channels like WhatsApp, phone calls, text messages, videos, and mobile apps, AgroConecta ensures continuous, real-time guidance for local growers. This dual approach expands coverage across key farming domains, including basic grains, vegetables, fruit crops, livestock, and small livestock species, empowering farmers regardless of their location.
Representing an initial phase toward Agriculture 5.0, the program connects actionable data and digital tools with traditional agricultural wisdom. As a cornerstone of regional agtech modernization, AgroConecta aims to make innovation practical and scalable, turning everyday technology into measurable gains in yield and resilience for El Salvador’s agricultural workforce.
