El Salvador is making a strategic push to modernize its agricultural landscape by upgrading the national livestock herd with high-value breeding bulls. Led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), the initiative introduces top-tier breeds—including Senepol, Brown Swiss, Girolando, Guzerat, Angus, and Gyr—to strengthen beef and dairy production across the country.
In a key cross-border collaboration, MAG partnered with the country’s Bitcoin Office to acquire two premier Santa Gertrudis bulls, one of which was directly imported from Texas, United States. This alliance underscores El Salvador’s approach to leveraging innovative international partnerships to enhance traditional industries and drive economic growth.
The newly introduced bulls are set to become the foundation for thousands of future calves, drastically elevating genetic quality nationwide. Vice Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Óscar Domínguez highlighted the widespread impact of the breeding program, noting, “These bulls are and will be the fathers of thousands of calves across the nation.”
To ensure local producers benefit immediately, MAG is providing affordable access to advanced genetic material, offering semen doses starting at $2.83. Farmers can access these resources through MAG’s Animal Reproduction division at El Matazano or inquire via the 912 call center, bringing modern agricultural solutions directly to local livestock operations.
