Bitcoin Strategy Unchanged: El Salvador Official Slams Bloomberg Report as Fake News.

El Salvador’s national Bitcoin strategy remains strictly intact, despite recent foreign media reports suggesting a pivot toward dollar-backed stablecoins. Officials from the National Bitcoin Office (ONBTC) pushed back against a Bloomberg article claiming President Nayib Bukele’s administration was altering its cryptocurrency roadmap five years after making Bitcoin legal tender.

Addressing the claims on a live broadcast of the Simply Bitcoin podcast, Stacy Herbert, Director of the National Bitcoin Office, explicitly labeled the mainstream report as “fake news.” She emphasized that El Salvador remains a “Bitcoin-only country” with no plans to launch, partner with, or manage any alternative cryptocurrency or stablecoin wallets.

Clarifying the source of the confusion, Herbert noted that a municipal development agency had independently built a local community application. She reiterated that any official policy shifts regarding sovereign wallets or digital assets would originate directly from the Bitcoin Office, adding that the government’s mandate to preserve El Salvador’s “Bitcoin Country” brand has never wavered.

The administration’s commitment is backed by ongoing execution, including the government’s public treasury policy of purchasing one Bitcoin every single day, a practice maintained for nearly three years. In addition, El Salvador continues to expand educational programs, having trained over 80,000 civil servants and introduced financial literacy curricula in public schools nationwide.

Co-director Max Keiser noted that El Salvador’s unique framework—combining Bitcoin adoption, zero-tax incentives for tech development, and enhanced national security—creates a protective moat around its economic sovereignty. He warned against attempts by external entities to dilute the national brand for commercial leverage.

As the government prepares to host the upcoming Bitcoin Histórico conference at the National Palace in San Salvador, officials maintain that the country’s long-term vision remains unchanged: building a robust financial ecosystem anchored exclusively on Bitcoin, security, and economic freedom.
