Children in El Salvador are receiving specialized orthopedic care this week through a medical initiative at the Benjamín Bloom National Children’s Hospital, where dozens of patients are undergoing surgery for clubfoot and talipes equinovarus.

The program brings together surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, therapists, and orthotists, combining multidisciplinary expertise to address orthopedic conditions affecting children and support their mobility and quality of life.

The surgical campaign is being carried out through collaboration between the Ministry of Health of El Salvador, Rotary Club of San Salvador Cuscatlán, and Healing The Children. Patients were evaluated beforehand through consultations involving specialists from Spain and the United States, helping determine the appropriate treatment for each child.

For children who do not require surgery, the initiative has also provided orthopedic footwear and other support materials as part of a broader approach to pediatric orthopedic care.

The effort adds to El Salvador’s ongoing work to strengthen specialized healthcare services for children. The Benjamín Bloom Hospital remains the country’s national specialized pediatric institution, providing medical care to children and adolescents in San Salvador.

By combining specialized medical teams with international and community partnerships, the initiative seeks to expand access to orthopedic treatment and help more children achieve improved mobility and long-term quality of life.
