El Salvador has launched its National Strategy on Science, Diplomacy, and Academic Cooperation, establishing a new framework to connect scientific research, higher education, the private sector, and national development priorities with international opportunities.
The initiative seeks to expand academic exchanges, international research collaboration, technology transfer, researcher mobility, joint scientific projects, and access to new funding opportunities, strengthening the country’s participation in global knowledge networks.
A National Roundtable on Science Diplomacy and Academic Cooperation, coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, will oversee the implementation of the strategy and promote greater coordination among national and international stakeholders.
The National AI Agency (ANIA) will contribute technical expertise in artificial intelligence research, capacity building, and knowledge exchange. The agency will also develop an AI-powered agent to support the Roundtable’s management, integrating emerging technology into the country’s science diplomacy efforts.
Lídice González, ANIA’s Deputy Director, participated in the session held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighting the agency’s role in advancing research and innovation capabilities.
The strategy represents another step in El Salvador’s efforts to strengthen its international scientific partnerships and innovation ecosystem, with the government seeking to position the country as an emerging regional and global hub for technology, research, and academic excellence.
