El Salvador’s General Directorate of Customs, led by Director General Benjamín Mayo, has received international recognition from the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) for its advancements in customs risk management through the use of artificial intelligence and advanced data analytics.

The recognition highlights El Salvador’s progress in modernizing its customs administration, strengthening risk assessment capabilities, and facilitating international trade through innovative digital solutions.

The acknowledgment was granted under the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP-II), an initiative that provides technical assistance to customs administrations worldwide. During the first half of 2026, El Salvador was recognized alongside Colombia, Morocco, Moldova, Peru, Tunisia, and Uzbekistan for successfully enhancing its national customs risk management framework through specialized training and AI-powered data analysis.

According to the General Directorate of Customs, these achievements form part of the institution’s broader digital transformation strategy, which seeks to improve data-driven decision-making, accelerate foreign trade procedures, and reinforce the security of customs operations.

The international recognition further positions El Salvador as a regional benchmark in customs modernization, demonstrating the country’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge technologies that strengthen supply chain security, improve trade facilitation, and enhance the competitiveness of its logistics sector.
