El Salvador’s specialty coffee industry is paving the way for international growth following the arrival of a key exploratory trade mission from the Saudi Coffee Company. Backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), the state-supported entity is actively looking to integrate premium Salvadoran beans into its regional portfolio. Representatives from the delegation highlighted El Salvador’s recognized coffee quality and noted that this strategic timing aligns with Saudi Arabia’s position as the largest coffee importer in its region.

This commercial breakthrough is the result of joint diplomatic efforts between El Salvador’s embassy in Riyadh—established in 2024—and the Salvadoran Coffee Institute (ISC). During their itinerary, the Saudi delegation conducted cupping sessions, explored various coffee-producing regions, and met directly with local growers to evaluate flavor profiles. Official representatives emphasized that “our primary goal is to discover Salvadoran coffee and explore opportunities to start importing it to become part of our product range.”

In parallel, South American markets are demonstrating strong interest in Salvadoran origin coffee through a visiting delegation from Ecuador’s Coffee Relief. The project aims to establish bilateral trade alliances that would allow Ecuador to import Salvadoran green coffee, process and roast it locally, or leverage El Salvador’s infrastructure to supply existing export channels. Describing the country’s coffee beans as having distinct flavor profiles, the project’s representative stressed their ambition to “build effective cooperation between Ecuador and El Salvador to import coffee and explore direct export opportunities to our established international markets.”
Facilitated by the Directorate of Economic Relations at El Salvador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs alongside the ISC, these high-level visits reinforce the country’s strategy to diversify its export markets. By building direct bridges with major buyers in the Middle East and Latin America, El Salvador continues to position its specialty coffee as a highly competitive global commodity.
