El Salvador’s public school year will officially begin on February 2 with a civic ceremony and the full delivery of school supply packages to students nationwide, Education Minister Karla Trigueros confirmed during a television interview on Frente a Frente.

Trigueros explained that the school packages will be provided at no cost to families and will include two uniforms, shoes, notebooks, coloring supplies, markers, pencils, pens, scissors, a complete set of textbooks, and technological devices depending on each student’s grade level. “Parents will not have to pay anything for these school packages,” she said.

According to the minister, children in early childhood education will receive an eight-inch tablet, students from first to third grade will be given a 10-inch tablet, and from fourth grade onward, students will receive a laptop. She emphasized that this initiative is part of the Salvadoran government’s strategy to reduce the digital divide in the public education system.
Trigueros noted that since 2021, the government has delivered 1.2 million electronic devices with an investment of $800 million, in addition to 440,000 new devices recently acquired. “These devices, from well-known brands such as HP, Dell, and Lenovo, are ready for nationwide distribution,” she stated.
The education official also clarified that both uniforms will be delivered simultaneously and reaffirmed that national producers remain the official suppliers of shoes and uniforms, dismissing misinformation circulating on social media.
