The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has approved US$150 million in financing for El Salvador to implement the National Sports Venue Infrastructure and Rescue Program (PRODEPORTE II), a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening sports development, public health, and social cohesion across the country.
Announced on January 20, 2026, the program builds on the success of PRODEPORTE I, which received US$115.2 million in CABEI financing to renovate and modernize sports venues in the San Salvador Metropolitan Area. Those upgrades allowed El Salvador to meet international standards and successfully host the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games in 2023, leaving a legacy of modern, world-class sports facilities.
PRODEPORTE II marks a major step toward decentralizing sports infrastructure by focusing on the interior of the country. The program includes the modernization and reconstruction of 13 sports venues across nine departments: La Unión, Santa Ana, La Paz, Usulután, Cabañas, San Vicente, San Miguel, Chalatenango, and Morazán. Among the most prominent projects are improvements to the Óscar Quiteño Stadium in Santa Ana and the Juan Francisco Barraza Stadium in San Miguel.
Through this initiative, El Salvador will expand access to safe, inclusive, sustainable, and digitally equipped sports facilities that meet international quality standards, benefiting athletes, students, and local communities. CABEI’s support for PRODEPORTE II reinforces a national system of sports infrastructure that complements investments in the capital while promoting violence prevention, community development, and local economic growth throughout the country.
