Chile’s president-elect, José Antonio Kast, is expected to meet with President Nayib Bukele during an upcoming tour of Central America, with El Salvador as a central stop focused on security and tourism development.

During a press conference in Chile, Kast highlighted the progress El Salvador has achieved under Bukele’s administration, emphasizing improvements in public safety and increased tourism investment. “In El Salvador they continue to advance on security, but also on tourism investments, which allow a country without our mining or agricultural conditions to grow in an area that greatly interests us,” he said.

International media have reported that the meeting between both leaders will seek to address cooperation in areas such as police intelligence and prison systems, sectors in which El Salvador has drawn regional attention.

Kast will be accompanied by members of his future cabinet in Security, Defense, and Economy, along with key advisers, as part of a technical delegation aimed at gathering experiences that could inform Chilean public policies once he takes office on March 11.

The visit reflects Kast’s continued interest in what is known as the Bukele model, which he has previously praised for restoring public safety and positioning El Salvador as a growing reference in tourism and security reform.
