CAF’s Pablo Bartol: DoctorSV Marks a Historic Leap Toward Healthcare Equity in El Salvador

El Salvador’s digital healthcare transformation continues to earn international recognition, highlighted by recent statements from Pablo Bartol, Social and Human Development Manager at CAF—Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean. Speaking about the launch of DoctorSV, the country’s new AI-powered digital health system, Bartol emphasized the historic step El Salvador is taking toward true equity in public services.

“For us as Latin Americans, it is a tremendous source of pride to have been part of this entire process,” Bartol stated. “Because it also fosters greater equity; it’s the same for everyone. And what creates equity in a society generates identity. It’s part of what we recognize as ours.”

Bartol underscored that inequality has long shaped access to healthcare in the region. “Those with a lot of money have one type of healthcare service, and those without have another,” he said. “With DoctorSV, we are generating that level of public good. Healthcare in El Salvador is now truly a public good; it belongs to everyone, to everyone at the same time.”

The platform—launched with support from CAF and Google—offers video consultations, AI-assisted diagnostics, digital prescriptions, and access to medical test results. In its first phase, DoctorSV is available to Salvadorans between 18 and 30 years old, with nationwide expansion planned.

El Salvador’s commitment to building a modern, inclusive public healthcare system reflects a broader national effort to reduce inequality and strengthen social cohesion. The introduction of DoctorSV positions the country as a regional pioneer in digital health, providing services that are accessible, uniform, and designed for all citizens.

Bartol concluded that such initiatives represent a shared achievement: “What we all have equally is what we are proud of.”
