The recent disciplinary measures announced by El Salvador’s Ministry of Education continue to spark reactions across the country. Earlier this week, Minister Karla Edith Trigueros issued a memorandum requiring school directors to enforce stricter supervision of students, focusing on clean uniforms, proper hairstyles, and respectful behavior upon entry to schools.
President Bukele expressed his support on social media, stating, “To build the El Salvador we dream of, it is clear that we must completely transform our education system.”
Now, private institutions have also voiced their approval. Javier Hernández, President of Private Schools in El Salvador, said the reforms align with existing internal regulations and strengthen their enforcement. “We have regained authority that had been taken from us, and what we can do now is apply our norms with greater rigor,” Hernández explained.
The measures will take effect this Wednesday, August 20, and are considered mandatory for public school directors. Their impact is already extending to private education, reinforcing discipline and order as part of the broader transformation of the Salvadoran education system.
