El Salvador’s ISSS Introduces Innovative Telemedicine Booth for Efficient Patient Management.

The Salvadoran Social Security Institute (ISSS) is enhancing healthcare delivery with the launch of a telemedicine booth at the ISSS General Hospital. This innovative service allows low-risk patients to receive medical consultations, diagnoses, and treatment through video calls, without the need for in-person visits.

Since its implementation, the telemedicine booth has already served 404 patients. This advancement is part of ISSS’s broader strategy to leverage technology to streamline healthcare services. By enabling remote consultations, the booth accelerates medical evaluations and alleviates hospital congestion, allowing medical staff to focus on more complex cases.

The service is available around the clock, providing patients with a convenient, private, and efficient care option. To access the telemedicine service, patients first request a consultation ticket at the electronic Emergency kiosk. They then proceed to the Patient Selection area, where a doctor takes their vital signs and offers the option of telemedicine care if appropriate.

Patients can use the same consultation ticket to collect prescribed medications at the hospital pharmacy. Additionally, if needed, disability certificates or laboratory test results will be sent to the patient via WhatsApp or email.

ISSS’s new telemedicine booth represents a significant step toward automating health services, embracing modern health technologies, and improving overall care processes.
