In a notable display of international cooperation, the Government of President Nayib Bukele has facilitated a significant healthcare initiative at the “Dr. José Antonio Saldaña” hospital. For the third consecutive year, the Salvadoran embassy in the United States has coordinated the arrival of a team of American doctors from Annandale Ob/Gyn to provide free medical care.

From August 19 to 22, this distinguished delegation, which included surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interpreters from Virginia’s Inova Hospital and affiliated with prestigious institutions like Johns Hopkins University, conducted 25 surgical procedures in gynecology and obstetrics. The visit underscores the strong diplomatic ties between El Salvador and its American allies, enabling valuable medical support for Salvadoran citizens.
Ambassador Milena Mayorga highlighted the significance of the partnership, noting the excellence of the visiting doctors and the advanced medical techniques they bring. “These are eminent figures in their field, and it’s a great achievement to host them in El Salvador,” said Ambassador Mayorga.
In addition to the surgeries, the initiative included a forum for Salvadoran health professionals, both from public and private sectors, to gain insights into advanced gynecological surgery techniques. This collaboration reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of public healthcare through improved facilities and international expertise.
Ambassador Mayorga also announced that the American doctors have committed to returning next year, with other specialists expressing interest in future visits. This ongoing partnership aims to strengthen El Salvador’s healthcare system and support the government’s broader transformation efforts in public hospital services.
