Over 90,000 Cutting-edge Chromebooks to Reach Public School Children Nationwide.

Over 90,000 high-tech Chromebooks are set to enrich the educational experience of public school children across the country. These state-of-the-art devices come equipped with the latest educational advancements from Google, marking a significant milestone in the collaborative efforts between the Government of El Salvador and Google.

The transformation of the educational system stands as a cornerstone of the partnership between the American tech giant, Google, and the Government of El Salvador, facilitated through the Google for Education platform.

Alejandro Almazán, Google’s Head of Education for Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, highlighted in an interview that more than 90,000 Chromebooks, specialized educational computers by Google, will be distributed among fourth-grade students in public institutions as a result of this alliance.

According to Almazán, these devices are widely acclaimed globally for educational environments due to their adaptability within a controlled ecosystem, offering students priority access to Google’s educational programs.

Almazán emphasized the journey leading to this accomplishment, outlining the initial challenges faced by the Government in 2020 amidst the pandemic, where efforts were concentrated on providing technological devices and connectivity to students nationwide. This marked the inception of a long-term vision and commitment. Subsequently, the second phase witnessed the integration of premium versions of Google’s ecosystem into the country’s schools.

«After adjustments in training, mass adoption, and technological familiarization, we landed on Chromebooks, where our goal is to implement the complete Google ecosystem on a large scale. All fourth-grade children are receiving these devices, granting them access to collaboration tools, productivity suites, and the entire Google ecosystem,» he stated.

Moreover, he noted the provision of robust Chromebook devices exclusively for teachers in El Salvador, as part of an aggressive and visionary strategy.

Almazán also highlighted the extensive training provided to 66,000 teachers in utilizing these technologies, along with the establishment of three Google Educator groups comprising an estimated 2,000 teachers nationwide, serving as technological leaders.

In parallel, the Government is spearheading efforts to enhance connectivity, benefiting over a million students in the public sector and bolstering the educational endeavor.

«The context of El Salvador is unique, characterized by significant investments in equipment, connectivity, and training, positioning the country as a prominent reference in educational technology throughout the region. El Salvador harbors a comprehensive long-term vision,» affirmed Almazán.

Currently, discussions are centered on analytics and solutions through artificial intelligence tailored for educational environments, reflecting the ongoing commitment to innovation and advancement in education technology.
