El Salvador Welcomes Foreign Talent with Temporary Residency Programs.

To attract foreign talent and investment, the government under President Nayib Bukele has introduced a range of temporary residency options through the Directorate General of Migration and Foreigners for foreigners looking to engage in various activities, including professional projects, within El Salvador.

«If you’re a foreign national with aspirations to pursue your professional endeavors in El Salvador, the Directorate General of Migration and Foreigners has provided detailed requirements for different temporary residency categories that align with your specific situation. Among the available residency statuses are the following: transient, temporary, transient with work authorization, investor temporary, business temporary, commercial representative temporary, retiree temporary, rentier temporary, accompanying temporary, study temporary, and shareholder temporary.

Additionally, the list encompasses temporary individual traders, cooperative temporaries, temporaries for victims of trafficking, temporaries for humanitarian reasons, and temporaries for religious purposes.

All of these residency statuses are subject to renewal by the Directorate General of Migration and Foreigners.

In addition to temporary residencies, the government also offers permanent residencies for individuals married to or cohabitating with Salvadorans, retirees, refugees or stateless individuals, victims of trafficking, and various other categories.

«To attain Salvadoran citizenship, foreign residents who are nearing the completion of their immigration process must, among other requirements, undertake a theoretical examination to demonstrate their understanding of the country’s history, culture, and geography,» the institution explained.

The government’s efforts in transforming the nation’s public security landscape, spearheaded by President Nayib Bukele, have turned El Salvador into a desirable tourist destination and an appealing choice for permanent residency among international observers.
