El Salvador Facilitates Access to Housing Loans for Returnees.

The Salvadoran Government, under the leadership of President Nayib Bukele, is taking steps to provide decent housing for all sectors of the population. In line with this goal, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexandra Hill, and the Minister of Housing, Michelle Sol, formalized a Memorandum of Understanding yesterday, enabling both institutions to collaborate and work together for the benefit of returning Salvadorans or those at risk of irregular migration.

According to the officials, both government departments are committed to taking immediate actions that will facilitate vulnerable individuals in accessing housing and other housing solutions, ultimately fostering roots in their places of origin.

Minister Hill stated that these efforts are focused on promoting the products and services available to Salvadorans in motion, aiming to provide them with the necessary information to access the financing offered by the Social Housing Fund (FSV).

Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will make its Comprehensive Assistance Windows for People in Motion platform available throughout the country to reach eligible individuals within this initiative.

She added that this interagency collaboration is a response to the fact that many returnees or those at risk of emigrating express their desire to have a home for themselves and their families as part of their future plans.

«We are taking a new step towards achieving a better future in our country and working for the benefit of migrants, as entrusted to us in the Cuscatlán Plan,» she said.

Minister Sol emphasized that the government’s objective is to provide dignified housing that serves as a foundation for those returning to the country. «That’s why we are opening the doors for them to have their own homes through various options,» she assured.

Furthermore, the minister reiterated that, during the current administration, the Housing System has benefited over 50,000 Salvadoran families with a social investment of $680 million in loans, property deeds, housing improvements, and resettlements.

Moreover, she provided details that approximately 1,108 housing loans, totaling around $13.6 million, have been processed so far this year.

The government’s initiative to facilitate access to housing loans for Salvadoran returnees reflects its commitment to addressing the housing needs of vulnerable populations and promoting stability within the country. By providing support and opportunities for housing, the government aims to foster a sense of belonging and encourage the development and growth of communities across El Salvador.
