New airlines explore operating in El Salvador this 2023.

In this scenario, new international airlines are preparing to enter El Salvador. The president of the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA), Federico Anliker, reported that airlines are already in talks with Salvadoran authorities to land in the country.

“We have more surprises for this year since there are more airlines that want to come and operate in the country. We have always said it: as a government, we have a commitment to the Salvadoran people to provide them with open skies and the opportunity to access new destinations, lower prices, and promote free competition in the field of aviation,” said the official.

The autonomous company explained that among the companies interested in starting operations in the country are some passenger and cargo companies. “We are talking with airlines from the European continent, the Middle East, and Asia. In addition, it is important to highlight that they are not only for passengers but also for cargo, “he confirmed.

International airlines -if the processes are completed- would join the 14 airlines that currently operate at the El Salvador airport.

According to Anliker, the interest of the airlines in El Salvador is supported by the opening of the government, the security climate; and the inter-institutional work carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), the Civil Aviation Authority (AAC), and the Ministry of Economy, among others.

To start operations in the country, companies must carry out different procedures before the AAC, which remain in force to guarantee operational safety, as established by international and national standards.

It should be noted that operations also began last year: the Belizean Tropic Air, the Dominican Arajet, and the Canadian Airtransat.

On the other hand, CEPA reported that the Salvadoran air terminal mobilized 237,000 passengers from January 1 to 22 of this year, 7% more than in the same period last year.

“As a government, we have a commitment to the Salvadoran people to provide them with open skies and the opportunity for new destinations, lower prices, and to promote free competition in the field of aviation.” Federico Anliker, president of CEPA.
