Central America and the Dominican Republic will buy medicines collectively

The purchase of state-of-the-art medicines at better prices is the objective of the Council of Ministers of Health of Central America and the Dominican Republic, which was established through the 57th meeting held by officials to group purchase the necessary drugs for each nation.

Through this measure, each country will acquire not only medicines for HIV or tuberculosis but also supplies to treat the latest generation of chronic diseases.

“The grouped purchases of all the countries of Central America and the Dominican Republic will allow us to reduce the market price and be able to acquire not a basic or generic medicine, but one with better development and better results for the Salvadoran population and the region,” said Alabi. .

The Government of El Salvador (GOES) has established three forms for the acquisition of medicines that allow these supplies to reach the country in a timely manner and guarantee access to the population that requires them.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, the country was able to acquire its vaccines under the individual and global mechanisms, but the grouped mechanism or joint purchase at the Central American level was not strengthened, which this time was agreed upon after the summit,” the GOES reported. .

Meanwhile, the head of the Minsal emphasized that this action gives the country the opportunity to ensure the health of the population through the purchase of quality medicines at a lower cost due to the group purchase that the countries of the region established.

“It is very important that the Salvadoran people know about all the work that is being done not only in El Salvador but also in the Central American region and the Dominican Republic in order to be more secure in their health,” said Alabi.

In this way, the government of President Nayib Bukele continues to implement strategies that seek to safeguard and guarantee the health of the population, as has been done during the COVID-19 pandemic and other health emergencies such as monkeypox and other diseases that, due to the actions carried out, are controlled.
