Within the framework of the war against the gangs promoted by the government of President Nayib Bukele, the Director of Penal Centers, Osiris Luna, reported this Monday that more than 30,000 criminals have been removed from the streets.
“Terrorists and their collaborators are being imprisoned every day and the crimes they committed against Salvadorans will NOT go unpunished” — Luna said.
The emergency regime has been in force for 50 days, during which the National Civil Police (PNC) and the Armed Forces have carried out operations in neighborhoods, communities, residences, and rural areas in order to search for and capture gang members and their collaborators.
The arrests of these criminals since the emergency regime began on April 27 have managed to lower the rates of murders and other crimes that were committed by these criminals.
