A criminologist states that January is the month with the fewest homicides of this century

The criminologist Ricardo Sosa assured that since the implementation of the Territorial Control Plan, January 2022 became the month with the fewest homicides of this century and the previous one.

“El Salvador ends its first month of the year 2022 with a -25.2% in homicidal violence in the year-on-year comparison to January 2021” — Sosa published on social networks.

So far this year, the daily average of murders is 2.7, surpassing 2021, which ended as the safest in recent history in El Salvador, a drop that has been maintained since 2019.

When comparing data from 2022, with respect to the same period in 2018 in the government of Salvador Sánchez Cerén, the difference in homicides is abysmal, since in that year there were 323 murders.

The Minister of National Defense, Francis Merino Monroy, stated that the Territorial Control Plan outlined a route to reduce the crime problem.

“The challenge is great, but we finished January of this year with fewer homicides than January of last year” —said Merino Monroy.
