Salvadoran troops have launched their first major operation in Haiti’s Cul-de-Sac plain, northeast of Port-au-Prince, targeting criminal organizations operating in the area.
The mission focuses on dismantling the Chen Mechan and 400 Mawozo gangs, the latter reportedly led by Lanmò San Jou. Both groups have been linked to serious criminal activity, while 400 Mawozo has been implicated in the disappearance of four Salvadoran soldiers.
The operation marks a significant development in El Salvador’s participation in international efforts to address Haiti’s security crisis. Salvadoran forces are taking part in efforts to weaken armed gangs and support stabilization initiatives in the Caribbean nation.
The mission also carries particular importance for El Salvador, as the search for the four missing personnel remains a central concern of the deployment.
