CMI Alimentos Invests $1.3 Million to Modernize Zapotitán Production Center in El Salvador.

Leading regional food producer CMI Alimentos has announced a $1.3 million investment to modernize its Zapotitán Production Center in El Salvador. This initiative marks the launch of a comprehensive, multi-year strategic plan designed to expand production capacity, automate key infrastructure, and establish a new distribution hub to strengthen national food security.

Central to this transformation is a state-of-the-art deboning line deployed in late September, which consolidates multi-facility operations into a single streamlined plant. By integrating advanced automated sorting and weighing technology, the facility enhances packaging precision and consistency while enforcing rigorous quality and food safety standards for its popular flagship brand, Pollo Indio.

Emphasizing environmental responsibility, the upgrade features a high-efficiency anaerobic reactor for wastewater treatment and biogas production. Company estimates indicate this green technology will curb carbon emissions by approximately 4,100 metric tons of CO₂ equivalent annually, significantly reducing the facility’s environmental footprint alongside comprehensive facility upgrades for employee well-being.

“At CMI Alimentos, we continue to invest in El Salvador because we believe in its people and the country’s potential,”said Emilio Porta, General Director of Meat Solutions at CMI. “This investment is part of a modernization roadmap focused on incorporating technology and creating sustainable opportunities that transform lives.”
