Top executives and tech visionaries are set to converge at the Key Institute of Engineering and Science on January 23–24, 2027, for the inaugural Sky.IA summit and hackathon. The landmark event will gather more than 300 industry decision-makers, including Arturo Barreira (Airbus), David Ruiz (Google Cloud Mexico), and Carrol Lane (MRO Holdings), alongside academics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, to map out the future of artificial intelligence in commercial aviation.
Designed to address critical operational bottlenecks across Latin America, the conference will explore how AI solutions can revolutionize fleet utilization, predictive maintenance, flight scheduling, and capital financing. Alongside the executive forum, a high-intensity 24-hour hackathon will unite university students and tech specialists to build real-world software solutions for pressing aerospace challenges.
Industry titan Roberto Kriete, founder of Key Institute and prominent figure behind Aeroman and Avianca, emphasized the sector’s urgency to leverage emerging technologies. “The industry is very complex,” Kriete noted during the announcement, adding that “artificial intelligence is a spectacular tool to help us solve problems” and that the long-term sustainability of aviation hinges on adopting these capabilities.
The initiative highlights El Salvador’s expanding role as an emerging regional tech hub, backed by commercial MRO infrastructure and government partnerships with global technology leaders. With air transport contributing 4.4% to El Salvador’s GDP—equivalent to $1.5 billion—local leaders and industry representatives like Aeroman CEO Alejandro Echeverría point to data-driven decision-making as the primary catalyst for sustaining growth and operational efficiency across the Americas.
