Accompanied by Tourism Minister Morena Valdez, the international delegation explored key sites in San Salvador as part of the ongoing World Tourism Day 2026 celebrations. The visit highlighted how the administration of President Nayib Bukele is successfully combining traditional cultural preservation with cutting-edge technology to diversify the country’s tourist appeal for international travelers.
During a guided tour of the Dr. David J. Guzmán National Museum of Anthropology (MUNA), leaders reviewed El Salvador’s ancient history alongside modern interactive exhibits. The UN Tourism head praised the ministry’s integration of innovation and modern tools designed to engage younger generations and global visitors. Beyond static displays, the experience brought living history to life as delegates engaged with local female artisans from Panchimalco, learning the centuries-old technique of the traditional waist loom and discovering the intricate palm-decorating customs of the town’s iconic Cofradía de las Flores y las Palmas.
In addition to indigenous Salvadoran traditions, the diplomatic delegation visited the Palestinian Museum of El Salvador, underscoring the nation’s multicultural mosaic and its commitment to fostering cross-cultural dialogue. The visit offered deep insight into the history, memory, and identity of the Palestinian community within the country, highlighting how El Salvador’s tourism strategy celebrates both local roots and international heritage.
Reflecting on the successful cultural tour, Tourism Minister Morena Valdez emphasized the country’s multi-layered attraction: “We had to do this cultural tour to look deeper into El Salvador’s traditions, so we toured two museums… She leaves very impressed with everything being done.” By seamlessly bridging ancient craftsmanship with technological innovation, El Salvador reinforces its position as a compelling destination for conscious, culture-seeking travelers from the United States and beyond.
