El Salvador took another step toward modernizing its energy grid on Monday with the official groundbreaking ceremony for the 115 kV San Miguel–Morazán transmission line. Hosted in the community of Los Ranchos, located in the Miraflores canton of San Miguel Centro, the event marked the formal start of a key project designed to strengthen regional power distribution and ensure grid reliability.
The project is led by ETESAL, the nation’s state electricity transmission company. Speaking at the ceremony, ETESAL President Edwin Núñez highlighted that the new transmission route will directly connect with the Morazán substation, an essential companion facility that is already under active construction to support energy demand across eastern El Salvador.
This initiative forms part of a broader national strategy focused on infrastructure growth and economic readiness. Reflecting on the long-term vision driving the investment, Núñez emphasized, “President Nayib Bukele’s vision for the future is impressive, always thinking about the country’s growth across all sectors. Of course, the energy sector cannot lag behind.”
By upgrading high-voltage transmission lines, El Salvador continues to build out a robust foundation for energy security and industrial advancement. Officials note that these infrastructure investments are crucial for meeting rising domestic demand and maintaining competitive power delivery across the region.
