El Salvador’s government has officially launched Mype Turística 2026, a strategic national initiative aimed at modernizing micro and small enterprises (MSMEs) across the country’s growing tourism sector. Spearheaded by the National Commission for Micro and Small Enterprises (CONAMYPE) and the Salvadoran Tourism Corporation (CORSATUR), the training program equips local business owners with advanced management strategies, digital transformation frameworks, and cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to help them compete on a global scale.
Timed alongside official celebrations for World Tourism Day 2026 from September 23 to 25, the initiative reflects a broader push by President Nayib Bukele’s administration to democratize tech access for small business owners. Trainer Jaime Carías noted that global trends heavily favor early tech adoption: “Major companies worldwide show us the path forward. Currently, 23% are scaling AI solutions, and 85% of tech investment decision-makers plan to increase their budgets in this area.”

By blending human hospitality with automated tools, the program seeks to streamline operations while enhancing personalized customer care. CONAMYPE President Paul Steiner emphasized that technology should amplify, rather than replace, the human element of travel: “Artificial intelligence and digital transformation were chosen as central pillars for World Tourism Day 2026 because the essence of tourism lies in the human touch. When people go on vacation, they seek rest and exceptional service; technology must serve as a key tool to make that unforgettable experience possible.”
The phased rollout includes direct business implementation and AI integration, building upon pioneering Salvadoran MSMEs that are already developing custom digital platforms. Through these efforts, El Salvador aims to elevate its national tourism offerings to meet the high standards of top international destinations, positioning its local entrepreneurs at the forefront of tech-driven hospitality.
