Ron Cihuatán has officially become the first brand certified to carry the newly unveiled “Ron de El Salvador”Designation of Origin. This historic legal recognition guarantees the authenticity, quality, and complete traceability of Salvadoran rum, requiring all sugarcane cultivation, fermentation, distillation, aging, formulation, and bottling to take place entirely within El Salvador.
By establishing strict production standards, the National Center of Records (CNR) aims to protect local heritage while boosting the country’s economic standing on the international stage. Executive Director Camilo Trigueros emphasized that the Designation of Origin serves as a legal protection mechanism to recognize the value of products directly tied to Salvadoran identity, history, and territory.
The achievement marks a major milestone for Licorera Cihuatán, which already exports its spirits to 30 international markets, including a growing footprint in the United States. Co-founder and Vice President Juan Alfredo Pacas highlighted that the internationalization of Salvadoran products contributes to economic development and strengthens El Salvador’s global projection.
Supported by high-level government officials, including Vice President Félix Ulloa and Minister of Economy María Luisa Hayem, the initiative highlights a strategic alliance between public institutions and private enterprise. This collaborative framework reinforces El Salvador’s commitment to intellectual property protection, agricultural excellence, and global trade expansion.
