El Salvador will temporarily close the Los Chorros highway section on Saturday, August 29, and Sunday, August 30, as authorities advance one of the country’s major infrastructure projects.
Minister of Public Works Romeo Rodríguez announced that specialized teams will carry out controlled rock blasting on the highway slopes to facilitate the next stages of construction, including the development of the planned viaduct and expansion of the roadway.
The operation is expected to generate a significant amount of rock and other material on the highway. To minimize disruption, the Ministry of Public Works will deploy heavy machinery, personnel, and specialized equipment around the clock to clear debris and restore traffic as quickly as possible.
Rodríguez explained that the temporary closure is necessary to safely accelerate construction activities in the Los Chorros section while allowing crews to advance with the viaduct construction and highway expansion.
The project is part of El Salvador’s broader investment in modernizing strategic transportation infrastructure, with the Los Chorros works expected to improve road capacity, connectivity, and mobility along one of the country’s key transportation corridors.
