El Salvador is set to welcome EmTech AI LATAM in November, as MIT Technology Review brings its leading artificial intelligence event to San Salvador—marking a significant step in the country’s emergence as a regional technology and innovation hub.
Stacy Herbert highlighted the announcement, emphasizing that global technology leaders are increasingly turning their attention to El Salvador. The decision reflects a broader transformation under President Nayib Bukele, whose administration has positioned innovation, economic freedom and technological development as key pillars of the country’s national strategy.
El Salvador has introduced measures aimed at attracting technology investment, including eliminating income taxes on technology investments, developing new regulatory frameworks and expanding investment in digital infrastructure, computing capacity and technology education.
According to Herbert, these initiatives form part of a long-term effort to establish El Salvador as a global technology and AI hub, while creating new opportunities for younger generations to participate in the digital economy.
Security has also played a fundamental role in this transformation. The improvement in public safety has helped create conditions in which international technology, academic and business communities can increasingly convene in San Salvador.
