The Government of President Nayib Bukele is welcoming the August holiday season with major upgrades to recreational parks across El Salvador, expanding family-friendly attractions while strengthening the country’s growing tourism industry.
Authorities have modernized several of the nation’s most visited destinations, including Apulo Recreational Park in Ilopango, Costa del Sol Recreational Park, San Sebastián Tourist Terminal, and Cerro Verde Natural Park. The improvements are designed to provide safer, more comfortable, and higher-quality experiences for both Salvadoran families and international travelers.
According to Salvadoran Tourism Institute (ISTU) President Eny Aguiñada, visitors are encouraged to enjoy the renovated parks responsibly so future generations can continue benefiting from these public spaces. She noted that enhanced security has played a decisive role in transforming destinations that were once underutilized into attractive recreational sites.
Among the most significant projects is the renovation of Apulo Recreational Park, where updated infrastructure and extended operating hours now allow guests to enjoy panoramic views of Lake Ilopango, including the popular sunset scenery. Meanwhile, development continues at Costa del Sol Recreational Park, where authorities have completed improvements to the beach area and are advancing a second phase that will integrate the Jaltepeque estuary into the visitor experience.
The San Sebastián Tourist Terminal also remains a featured destination, offering visitors the opportunity to experience El Salvador’s renowned textile craftsmanship and local cultural traditions.
Tourism officials project that El Salvador’s recreational parks will receive approximately 4.7 million visitors by the end of the year, surpassing previous annual records. Authorities attribute the sustained growth in domestic and international tourism to the country’s improved security environment and continued investment in modern tourism infrastructure under President Nayib Bukele’s administration.
