The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has signed a US$1.2 million technical cooperation agreement with El Salvador’s Salvadoran Water Authority (ASA) and the National Water and Sanitation Administration (ANDA) to support the design of a comprehensive recovery program for Lake Ilopango and Lake Coatepeque.
The initiative aims to strengthen climate resilience, improve water resource management, and enhance environmental sustainability while benefiting communities that depend on both lakes for their livelihoods and local economic activity.
Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Adriana Mira highlighted the importance of international cooperation in advancing sustainable development projects across El Salvador. She emphasized that strategic partnerships such as this contribute to protecting natural resources, increasing resilience to climate change, and improving the well-being of the population.
According to CABEI, the technical cooperation agreement represents a key milestone in preparing the restoration program for two of El Salvador’s most iconic freshwater lakes. The project will establish the technical framework needed to guide future environmental recovery efforts and promote the sustainable management of these strategic ecosystems.
The agreement reflects the continued collaboration between El Salvador and CABEI to advance environmental protection, strengthen water conservation initiatives, and support long-term sustainable development throughout the country.
