The United States and El Salvador reaffirmed their commitment to regional safety following a high-level bilateral meeting aimed at deepening strategic cooperation. Christopher “Cart” Weiland, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), met in San Salvador with El Salvador’s Minister of Justice and Public Security, Gustavo Villatoro, to review joint security initiatives and shared priorities across Central America.
The engagement underscores ongoing institutional collaboration to combat transnational crime, counter narcotics trafficking, and enhance public safety. During the discussions, official delegations evaluated current security frameworks and identified key operational areas to streamline joint law enforcement efforts and intelligence sharing. Regarding the strategic partnership, representatives noted that “the close collaboration between the United States and El Salvador remains essential to strengthening regional security and ensuring long-term stability.”
As Central American security dynamics continue to evolve, both governments signaled their intent to sustain close communication and expand existing programs.
