El Salvador Co-Chairs Historic United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance.

In a landmark achievement for its foreign policy, El Salvador has officially begun co-chairing the first-ever United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance. This historic initiative, mandated by the UN General Assembly, marks a new chapter in global tech policy by uniting all Member States, tech giants, academia, and civil society to shape the future of artificial intelligence.

The Salvadoran delegation at this historic event is led by Vice President Félix Ulloa hijo, who is representing the nation’s high-level commitment to digital transformation. El Salvador is leading this inclusive process alongside Ambassador Rein Tammsaar of Estonia, with key support from global bodies like the ITU and UNESCO to ensure all world regions are fairly represented.

According to El Salvador’s Permanent Representative to the UN, the nation’s selection to co-chair this global forum reflects deep international trust in the country’s modern trajectory. “Que El Salvador tenga el privilegio de copresidir este proceso refleja la confianza en nuestro país y nuestro firme compromiso con el multilateralismo,” the representative shared, emphasizing a shared vision where tech benefits all of humanity.

By positioning itself at the forefront of global AI regulations, El Salvador strengthens its ties with the United States and other international partners focused on safe, ethical technology. This pivotal role secures the Central American country a permanent seat at the table where the next generation of global innovation and tech security standards are being written.
