The government of El Salvador reaffirmed its commitment to supporting students and families in border communities after educational aid deliveries intended for dual-nationality populations reportedly faced restrictions from Honduran authorities over concerns related to the use of military uniforms by personnel participating in the distribution process.
The assistance initiative forms part of the educational support programs promoted under President Nayib Bukele’s administration, which has prioritized the modernization and strengthening of the country’s public education system. Thousands of school supply kits have already been distributed nationwide as part of ongoing reforms designed to ease financial burdens on Salvadoran families and improve access to education.
Recently appointed Education Minister Karla Trigueros has been tasked with leading efforts to reform a system long described by authorities as weakened by previous administrations. Her appointment reflects the government’s focus on institutional organization, logistics, and expanded educational outreach programs.
Officials indicated that the school supply initiative also seeks to benefit Salvadoran families residing in border regions, including communities with dual nationality, where educational assistance remains an important social support measure.
In response to the incident, Honduran authorities expressed their diplomatic position by emphasizing the importance of maintaining bilateral coordination mechanisms and dialogue aimed at benefiting border communities within a framework of mutual respect and cooperation.
Despite the disagreement surrounding the delivery process, Salvadoran authorities reiterated their intention to continue providing educational support to vulnerable families and ensuring that children in border areas receive the resources necessary for their academic development.
