Spanish Author Belén de León Presents “Chronicles of El Salvador,” Highlighting Security Transformation Under Nayib Bukele

A new literary work examining El Salvador’s recent transformation was officially presented this Wednesday at the National Library of El Salvador (BINAES). The book, Crónicas de El Salvador (Chronicles of El Salvador), authored by Spanish writer Belén de León, offers a reflective account of the country’s evolving social landscape.

The presentation was attended by Karla Trigueros, Minister of Education who accompanied the author during the event, underscoring the cultural and educational significance of documenting contemporary national history.

In her work, de León explores El Salvador’s recent past to better understand its present, focusing on the social changes experienced by citizens in a context shaped by improved public security. She highlights how policies implemented under President Nayib Bukele have contributed to reshaping daily life, fostering a renewed sense of normalcy and public confidence.

The author describes the country as an example of social cohesion, noting that security has become a unifying factor among citizens with historically diverse political perspectives. She also points to the growing international attention toward El Salvador’s approach, particularly in Europe, where discussions around safety and public order continue to gain relevance.

Reflecting on her experience, de León portrays a society rediscovering everyday freedoms, where ordinary moments—such as walking calmly through the streets—carry renewed meaning. Her narrative frames these changes as part of a broader transformation that is redefining the country’s identity.

The release of Chronicles of El Salvador adds to the ongoing dialogue about the nation’s progress, positioning the country as a subject of international interest in discussions on security, governance, and social development.
