El Salvador Partners with Singapore’s Science, Technology and Research Agency

El Salvador is advancing its international innovation agenda through new avenues of scientific cooperation with Agency for Science, Technology and Research, one of Asia’s leading institutions in applied research and technological development.

As part of its economic diplomacy efforts, the Salvadoran Embassy in Singapore held a high-level meeting with A*STAR to explore collaboration opportunities in key sectors that can accelerate the country’s technological transformation. The engagement reflects a strategic push to integrate El Salvador into global research and innovation ecosystems.

Discussions focused on priority areas such as artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, sustainable energy, biotechnology, and digital transformation—fields considered essential for enhancing productivity and competitiveness. Both sides also identified pathways for Salvadoran professionals to participate in international research initiatives through specialized programs that combine advanced training with real-world application.

A*STAR, known for connecting scientific research with industrial innovation, operates a comprehensive ecosystem that supports collaboration between academia, government, and the private sector. Its global network and multidisciplinary approach provide a valuable platform for countries seeking to strengthen their technological capabilities.

Salvadoran Ambassador Jaime José López Badía highlighted that partnerships of this nature contribute to building highly skilled human capital and fostering innovation-driven growth. He noted that closer ties with leading research institutions will help position El Salvador as an emerging participant in the global knowledge economy.

This initiative forms part of a broader national strategy to promote science, technology, and innovation as key drivers of sustainable development, economic diversification, and long-term competitiveness.
