From Clay to Jewelry: Valentine’s Day Craft Workshops Highlight El Salvador’s Creative Economy.

El Salvador is celebrating Valentine’s Day with a creative twist as the Interactive Artisan Development Center (CEDARTI) opens a series of hands-on workshops that blend tradition, design, and cultural identity. The initiative invites participants to transform raw materials into meaningful, functional pieces inspired by the season of love.

Across several days in early February, attendees can explore ceramic decoration with Valentine-themed iconography, learn the basics of jewelry-making, practice embroidery featuring the maquilishuat—El Salvador’s national flower—or shape clay into decorative candle holders. Each session is designed as a practical experience, allowing participants to work directly with materials while refining techniques that can evolve into marketable artisan products.

With a participation fee of just $5 per workshop, including materials, the program makes artisan training accessible while highlighting the country’s rich craft heritage. Beyond the creative experience, the workshops aim to strengthen technical skills, encourage innovation, and demonstrate how traditional craftsmanship contributes to El Salvador’s growing creative economy.

CEDARTI operates as part of the artisan development programs promoted by the National Commission for Micro and Small Enterprises (CONAMYPE), which focuses on capacity-building, design, and productive innovation within the artisan sector.

Interested participants can register through an online form, email, or WhatsApp, making it easy for locals and visitors alike to take part in this Valentine’s celebration of Salvadoran creativity.
