El Salvador Opens 2026 School Year with Nationwide Distribution of Free Student Supplies.

El Salvador officially launched the 2026 public school year on Monday, February 2, reaffirming its nationwide commitment to free education support for students across the country. Approximately 1.2 million students enrolled in public education are returning to classrooms in more than 5,800 schools nationwide.

As part of the government’s flagship education support program, every student—from early childhood education to flexible learning modalities—will receive a complete school package at no cost. The initiative includes two school uniforms, shoes, and essential school supplies, all delivered at the start of the academic year.

Education Minister Karla Trigueros confirmed that distribution is already underway and will continue throughout February to ensure full national coverage. “All students in the country will receive their school package at the beginning of the school year. Distribution will take place nationwide during February,” she stated.

To ensure proper fit and student comfort, the Ministry of Education has also set up exchange points near schools, allowing families to adjust uniform sizes when necessary. Government employees and inmates in trusted rehabilitation programs have been involved in assembling the school packages, supporting logistics and efficiency.

The academic calendar establishes that the first term will run until November 13, with the first school break scheduled for late March during the Holy Week holidays.

Trigueros emphasized that the program reflects the ongoing education strategy of President Nayib Bukele’s administration, which has prioritized improved learning conditions and digital inclusion through the delivery of tablets and computers to public school students. “We are delivering these resources at the moment children need them most. The government is working for the education of the country’s children,” she concluded.
