El Salvador continues to position itself as a regional hub for international sporting events, showcasing a new image of progress, safety, and sustainable development.
This Friday marked the opening of the II International El Salvador Golf & Surf Tournament, an event that blends tourism, sport, and global exposure. Hosted at El Encanto Country Club in San José Villanueva, La Libertad Este, the tournament reaffirms El Salvador’s role as a leading destination for world-class competitions.
During the inauguration, Minister of Tourism Morena Valdez highlighted the growing importance of sports tourism for the nation’s economy and image. “Golf & Surf emerged because the best surfers in the world also play golf, so we thought: ‘let’s unite these two sports.’ Many of you are visiting El Salvador for the first time and didn’t imagine the quality of our courses. The goal is to attract more visitors and investors who fall in love with this sport and with our country,” she said.
Gonzalo Fernández, representative of El Salvador Golf & Surf, emphasized that “this initiative began thanks to President Nayib Bukele’s vision to open the country not only through surfing, but also through other areas like golf. For two years, we have been positioning El Salvador in Argentina as a destination for golf, tourism, and investment. Golf is one of the most strategic sports for doing business,” he noted.
The tournament brings together 90 participants from the United States, Costa Rica, Spain, Guatemala, Venezuela, and El Salvador, fostering both cultural and athletic exchange. Events like this stimulate the local economy, create opportunities for the tourism sector, and strengthen the country’s reputation as a premier destination for investment and leisure.
Under President Bukele’s leadership, El Salvador enters a new era where sports, tourism, and international projection merge to drive national development and attract global investment.
