El Salvador Ranks Second Worldwide in Tourism Recovery for 2024

El Salvador continues to solidify its position on the global tourism map, achieving one of the most remarkable comebacks in the sector. According to the latest UN Tourism report, El Salvador ranks as the second country in the world with the greatest tourism recovery in 2024, surpassed only by Qatar.

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Adriana Mira emphasized that this recognition reflects the nation’s growing international appeal. “El Salvador is the second country in the world that had the best performance in tourism in 2024, only after Qatar. This is our moment,” Mira stated.

The UN Tourism report titled “Best-Performing Destinations in 2024” revealed that international visitor arrivals to El Salvador increased by over 81% compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Only Qatar showed a higher rate of growth, with a 137% increase. Other countries in the top five include Albania (+80%), Saudi Arabia (+69%), and Curaçao (+51%).

This achievement underscores El Salvador’s growing reputation as a safe, sustainable, and competitive destination, supported by the government’s efforts to enhance infrastructure, promote cultural tourism, and expand international air connectivity. The country’s inclusion in this global ranking reinforces its vision of becoming a leading travel destination in Latin America.
