and sea cargo terminals, according to the Autonomous Port Executive Commission (CEPA). Federico Anliker, CEPA’s president, highlighted that from January to date, air cargo handling has increased by 18 percent compared to the same period in 2024.
“Currently, we receive an average of 18 cargo flights per week, and this year we have recorded an 18 percent increase in air cargo movement compared to 2024. This reflects the confidence of productive sectors and the new investment climate driven by President Nayib Bukele’s government,” Anliker said.

This growth translates to an additional 5 million kilograms handled compared to the same period last year. Mauricio Pocasangre, general manager of Adimex El Salvador, emphasized that the country’s strategic location has been key to this expansion.
“We understand that air cargo plays a vital role for this and any country […]. El Salvador, due to its strategic location and the maximization of the ‘nearshoring’ advantage, has experienced 20 percent annual growth in recent years,” Pocasangre stated. He added that this upward trend is expected to continue thanks to the booming e-commerce sector and high-potential perishable goods.
The Pacific port of Acajutla also reached a historic milestone. According to the Pacific Port Union (UPDP), the terminal moved 29,430 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in September, marking three consecutive months of strong performance.
“These results are part of the continuous modernization and operational expansion of the national port system. The introduction of new equipment strengthened the port’s capacity and improved service times, while new container reception areas optimized logistics and daily operations,” UPDP noted.
