El Salvador Hosts Latin America’s Seismic Experts to Launch New Earthquake-Resistant Building Code.

El Salvador is hosting the Eighth Session of the Model Seismic Code for Latin America and the Caribbean, bringing together top experts in seismic engineering to strengthen regional cooperation and promote safer construction practices.

According to Minister of Public Works Romeo Herrera, “Most countries experience earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic activity that cause damage and loss of life. This requires us to rethink how we build infrastructure to ensure resilience against natural and climate-related challenges.”

He added that “these goals take time and investment, and forums like this are essential for Latin American nations to face shared vulnerabilities and find solutions.”

During the event, El Salvador will present its new Salvadoran Building Code (CSE), a comprehensive technical document establishing design, construction, supervision, and reinforcement standards to ensure resilient infrastructure nationwide. The initiative reflects El Salvador’s growing leadership in seismic safety and its commitment to protecting lives through innovation and cooperation.
