World Bank Backs El Salvador’s Push for Social Housing and Urban Renewal.

El Salvador’s Ministry of Housing held a high-level meeting with senior representatives from the World Bank to outline a new program aimed at expanding affordable housing and improving living conditions across the country.

Minister of Housing Michelle Sol said that the talks included World Bank Vice President for Infrastructure Guangzhe Chen, Regional Director for Infrastructure Marcela Silva, Country Manager for El Salvador Carine Clert, and IFC Country Manager Ivana Fernández.

“We are discussing the main lines of a new program that will include support and financing. The main objectives are to promote the construction of social housing and to work on housing improvement components, which will reduce the qualitative deficit,” the minister explained.

She added that, thanks to initiatives led by President Nayib Bukele, El Salvador now has a special regulatory framework that encourages greater housing production, provides certainty to investors, and creates more opportunities for low-income families.
