El Salvador Names Police Academy in Honor of Commissioner Mauricio Arriaza Chicas

President Nayib Bukele announced that El Salvador’s National Public Security Academy will now bear the name of Mauricio Antonio Arriaza Chicas, honoring the first officer of the National Civil Police (PNC) who gave his life in service to the nation.

“With humility and respect, I want to announce that, starting today, a very important institution will bear his name: the Mauricio Antonio Arriaza Chicas National Public Security Academy,” President Bukele stated.

The president emphasized that this tribute ensures new generations of police officers understand the sacrifice made by Arriaza Chicas and other heroes of public security. “So that every new agent, every new police officer who trains at that institution, not only remembers who the first PNC was, but also why, along with other heroes, he gave his life for our country. Because his legacy must live on in our history, in the history we are building,” Bukele added.

This recognition reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen El Salvador’s security institutions and honor the memory of those who dedicated their lives to building peace and protecting citizens.
